On June 1, 2023 OTV (https://www.weareo.tv/) is releasing all three seasons of Lyralen Kaye’s Assigned Female at Birth on their platform, on Apple TV and through Roku. This includes a world premier of all 8 episodes of Season 3, entitled Speed Dating Ableism.

Assigned Female at Birth began as a pandemic project and premiered its first episode in October of 2020. Lyralen Kaye (fae/they) interviewed over 50 people, mostly non-binary and trans, and then cast and filmed 35 actors using remote filming techniques created specifically for the project. In 2021 Assigned Female at Birth won eleven awards, including the NE Film Star Award for Kaye themself.

The series focuses on the lives of 3 families struggling with marriage or commitment: a Black trans family, a white trans family and a middle aged non-binary couple.  re interspersed with mockumentary Greek chorus style address to the camera by non-binary, trans and cis female minor characters talking about the issues that affect queer lives. The style is serio-comic, the content is right here, right now about outlier at risk lives, and the attitude is unabashedly proud.

Distribution through OTV gives Assigned Female at Birth greater reach and impact, so that the stories of non-binary and trans people can be seen and heard, and that the series message of radical inclusion can support queer lives.

This is par for the course for Lyralen Kaye, who began their career in Boston as an award-winning queer feminist slam poet and solo performer. Then, in 2003, Lyralen opened the theater company Another Country Productions and ran it for ten years, producing over 30 SLAMBOSTON, Diverse Voices in Theater festivals as well as full-length plays, before returning to their own performance career.
